Issues With AVCHD format

In the last month I have shot lots of footage, however I haven't been able to produce it because I am having some issues with it's new "state of the art" format.

The camcorder I have shoots in a format called AVCHD, I believe the extension for that is .MT2S I have no complaints about the camcorder, up until last month the workflow was superb. I could import, edit, and render all in one day. Then something happened. I don't know exactly what. I think it had to do with the update of Sony Vegas 8.0 Pro. I use Vegas to edit, I have since the stone ages. It is a reliable, professional linear editor with very fast render times and amazingly good looking output. Within each version's life-span, Sony releases an update to fix bugs. Each update is given an according version and build number. I had version 8.0b build 172. It was awesome. But then I upgraded to the latest, and boom. I can't even import .MT2S. So I reinstall and update again.

Make a long story short, I ended up emailing Sony and asking them what to do. They were so quick and helpful, within 24 hours. They told me that DVD Architect 4.5 was required to import and edit AVCHD. However I had DVD Architect PRO. So apparently, this doesn't work!

So to get things fixed I am going to have to reinstall everything, update, import, and so on. This takes soooo long. So if you are wondering why I haven't been posting video, that's why. Next week I MIGHT get things worked out. If not, then you can expect some video next month.

The stuff I have lined up includes some awesome footage from Pearson International Airport (CYYZ) where we stood at Wendy's and filmed aircraft on approach. Really great footage here, included is an Aeroflot 767, Air Canada a330, Jazz/American A CRJs , Air Canada 777-2LR, a private Cessna Citation X, and so on. All flying really low :D

Also, we have a video of Mohamed, walking into a gun shop. Which is crazy because it is Mohamed, and a gun shop. Unfortunately it was filmed with a crappy camera. Fortunately, that means I can edit it sooner!

I also have some random footage of a snowstorm where I used a homemade waterproof housing. Really awesome because it was the biggest storm of the year, and you can barely see a thing!

And of course, the france footage. I have somewhat deviated from the plan and instead of releasing one big video montage I am going to do a few small 2 minute shorts. It's hard to combine all the random shots of Europe, so this is the best route so far.

And don't think we forgot. We still have 2 DV tapes worth of footage from Egypt that needs edited. I'm thankful that it is on DV, because I will be able to edit on Final Cut instead of Vegas (vegas is lousy at DV) Yet I am disappointed, because we don't have a DV camera, and need to find somebody that does so we can import the stuff. Regardless, Mohamed says this stuff is gold, so it should be a hit.

So hopefully that gives you a nice update of things here at EHDT. If any viewers know of a solution to my AVCHD issue, I'd definitely like to hear from you.

PEACE!
